Spring2010 | SPLASH
Through our thriving Guest Artist Program, DSA dance students are exposed to a wide spectrum of creative processes and dance making. The artists who organize and facilitate these unique performance opportunities offer gifts of guidance and personal perspective. Diverse in style, structure, design, and energetic intent, the 18 dances of SPLASH represent a growing community of artists who have offered their creative insights to our students.
“…Denver School of the Arts students and faculty choreographers are proving once more that there is a sterling future for dance…” —Donald K. Atwood, World Dance Reviews
Fall 2009 | ACTION
ACTION represents an extension of the DSA Dance Department classroom, highlighting both large group choreographic work set by guest artists and the outcome of a creative process and collaboration among the students performing their own choreographic works.
Spring 2009 | FLOURISH
flour·ish -verb: to be strong and healthy or to grow well, especially because conditions are right; -noun: a dramatic body movement, such as a sweep of the hand that attracts attention. FLOURISH is a presentation of strong, healthy, and dramatic dancing – a bouquet of choreographic expressions.
Fall 2008 | REACH
REACH is the result of a collaborative creative process among the young artists performing in the dances. They choreographed these works using strategies of cooperation, consensus, and communication to agree upon both thematic concepts as well as the movements and design structures within the dances. This process, unique to DSA Dance, moves beyond a creative activity into a method for building teamwork and leadership skills.
Spring 2008 | TAPESTRY
A finely woven evening of dance energy and artistry, TAPESTRY is a delightful, thought provoking, exciting, and meaningful collection of movement expressions. The work is the culmination of a shared experience between the young dancers and guest artists from the Denver dance community and beyond. These fine choreographers and teachers work to enrich our students’ experiences in the classroom/studio and on stage.
Fall 2007 | COUNTERPOINT
“Collaborate: to work together, especially in a joint intellectual/artistic effort.” The Denver School of the Arts departments of Stagecraft and Design and Dance and Movement together created COUNTERPOINT.
