After checking in, students should proceeed to the dressing room and/or dance studio where they are expected to begin warming-up or stretching. The required Master Class begins promptly at the posted time. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE BAREFOOT FOR THE MASTER CLASS. Proper dance attire is preferred with hair pulled back or in a bun (leotard and tights or unitard, leggins and form fitting shirts. No jewelry or gum and no street clothing). The Master Class is two parts: technique and improvisation/creativity/passion. A background or familiarity with ballet, jazz and/or modern dance will be helpful in the Master Class, although it is not required to have any previous training in dance to be accepted to the DSA dance program.

TO THE PARENT: The audition Master Class begins on time. We do not guarantee that a late arrival will be given an audition. Parents are not permitted to observe the audition.

3. CALL-BACKS

Callback dates and time slots will be assigned and will be posted on the web at auditions.dsadance.org by Sunday, January 8th at 6:00 p.m. Requests for alternative time slots cannot be honored.

Callbacks run on time as much as possible. Arrive 30 minutes before callback to check in and warm up.

Please keep the following dates open on your family calendar for callbacks: January 10, 3:00–9:00 p.m.; January 14, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

Callbacks will consist of the following:

PRESENTATION of ONE solo of dance–choreographed by the student–no longer than 2 minutes. Please have music on CD or iPod, MP3 player, or phone. Due to time constraints, audition panel may choose to stop dance(s) before end.

ESSAY that addresses the prompt “Why I want to attend the Denver School of the Arts”. It should be handwritten by the student and not edited by the parent. We are looking at the student as a young artist and want to know their thoughts and ideas.

PORTFOLIO that is well presented and orderly, though it is not expected that it will be extensive. A scrapbook of acheivement awards and perforamance programs will suffice for a first year student. Parents are welcome to assist in the portfolio preparation.

RESUME that is professionally formatted though it is not expected to be extensive. Parents are welcome to assist in the resume preparation.

INTERVIEW where the panel will be asking questions that pertain to school, dance training, other artistic insterests, and life in general. The most important thing in the interview is to talk.
