Please join us November 17, 18, & 19 in the Kay Schomp Theatre for our Fall Concert, IMPRESSIONS. Tickets ($16/20-adults, $12/14-seniors & students), are available online.
IMPRESSIONS features the work of the department’s choreographic curriculum. In preparation for the show, Beginning Level Students create group choreography in collaboration with dance faculty mentors. This work allows for an in depth study of specific choreographic form and fundamental dance elements while allowing students to generate their own unique movement phrases. Intermediate Level Students work as teams in a problem solving process. Given a collective assignment with individual responsibilities, these students shape their dances to assigned music selections. Advanced Level Students collaborate to create original choreography as well as original costumes, music, and lighting. DSA dancers also perform works of guest artists.
We are honored to have a long partnership with Newman Center for the Performing Arts who for many years has arranged for dance companies performing works in their season to provide guest artists to work with DSA Dancers. In The Studio this month will be Bridgman | Packer Dance.
Bridgman | Packer Dance will be performing Under the Skin and Remembering What Never Happened at Newman Center November 19. Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, Guggenheim Fellows in Choreography, are acclaimed for their innovative integration of live dance, live video capture of the performance, and previously recorded film footage. Their pioneering techniques have been acclaimed for combining dancers and their own images, creating a magically populated stage where technology and physical reality collide. DSA Dancers and their families are offered $15 tickets (with free parking) to the performances by visiting newmantix.com/promo and entering the code DSA15TIX.
This collaboration will continue throughout the year when DSA Dance will welcome Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (February), and Black Grace (April) In The Studio and these companies perform in the Newman Center Presents season (with $15 tickets and free parking available now: DSA15TIX).
On Thursday, September 29, the Dance and Movement Department welcomed Rebecca Rasmussen of MOMIX In The Studio…
Ms. Rasmussen (Dance Captain) was born and raised in Moorpark, CA (southern) where she professionally performed with the Media City Ballet, La Danserie, and the DeDa Dance Theatre. Rebecca received her BFA in Dance from The Boston Conservatory where she had the honor of performing works by Paul Taylor, Jose Limon, Michael Folkine and Murray Louis. She would like to thank her family and friends for all their endless love and support because without them she wouldn’t be where she is now. Rebecca joined MOMIX in 2006.
Focusing on technique, Rebecca Rasmussen spent the afternoon working with DSA Advanced Dancers.
